The Keto Diet

What is the keto diet
The Keto Diet is a very low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be utilized as energy. The goal of a ketogenic diet is simple, to get your body to burn fat for energy all day long. The Keto diet plan is a super low-carb, high-fat, limited protein meal plan. The keto (short for ketogenic) diet works when your body produces ketones from broken down fats in the liver for energy, rather than relying on insulin to convert carbohydrates. The body enters a state of ketosis. Ketones are energy-carrying molecules in your body. When you eat carbs, your body uses the glucose in them to create energy. By following a ketogenic diet plan, you can put your body into a state of “ketosis” which means that your body is using fat to create energy instead.

How does the Keto Diet work?
The keto diet makes the body burn fat instead of carbs for energy.  The Keto diet works by reducing insulin, increasing mobilization of stored body fat, and decreasing appetite. Most people eat hundreds of carbs per day. Our Keto diet meal plans include around 25 carbs per day. This drastic reduction in carbohydrate intake puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, your body begins burning fat instead of carbs for energy.

The energy gained from burning food is used to drive all the processes going on in the body. Fuel for the human body takes three basic forms: carbohydrates (carbs), protein, and fat. We are capable of burning all three of these fuels, but do so under different circumstances. In general, the body burns carbohydrates, then fats, and then proteins, in that order.
